ICONS

There is perhaps no other graphic that gets viewed more so on a daily basis than the icon, certain ones at least. So, doesn’t it deserve more than just a click or double-click? In the role of icon designer, I approach my work through a mix of form and color to convey meaning that is to be understood by an international audience and hopefully invoke the deep rooted sense of visual identity, blending the two in a conveyable image legible in a given constrained space.

MICROSOFT WINDOWS 7 ICON TEST
The icons you will see on the linked page are my final submissions for the various disciplines and role expectations an icon designer deals with, along with explanations on the process and reasoning behind their creations. This was performed as a certifiacation test; a now common practice throughout the computer graphic industry.

OFFICE 2007
I was brought on to the Office 2007 team as a freelance icon designer towards the end of their project. My role was to design preset 3D icons and graphic sets for the Visio portion of the product. This was a study in form, color, lighting and textures. The functionality of the graphics played a key part in the design and implementation.

CARGO VIDEO GAME
This animated set of icons was designed for a Massive Multi-Player Online Game (MMOG) prototype. They were used as pickups throughout the game on various levels, throughout a diversified playing environment. The game’s style was based on a cartoonish portrayal of photo-realistic items. More than 20+ icons were created for this game.

APORTIS TECHNOLOGIES
I was responsible for wearing many hats at the Palm Pilot software developer, Aportis Technologies. I was primarily involved in the creation of several graphics used for icons, logos, print, online and packaging. As early as 1999, I saw that the industry was going to be going towards more of a stylized yet photo-realistic look, as displayed in several icons.
